The Deer Have Arrived! A New Milestone for the Deer Healthscape Farming Framework
An exciting step forward for the future of New Zealand deer farming — the deer have arrived at Lincoln University!

The arrival of the livestock marks an important milestone for the Deer Healthscape Farming Framework (DHFF), a research collaboration between Mountain River Venison and Lincoln University, involving Professor Pablo Gregorini, PhD student Emilia Lopez Seco, and the Pastoral Livestock Production Lab.
Part of the wider Mountain River Future Value Project, the DHFF is exploring how farming systems can better connect animal health, pasture diversity, environmental outcomes and the nutritional quality of venison.
From Research Plans to Deer on the Ground
With the deer now at Lincoln, the project has reached an exciting new stage.
The research aims to explore how diverse pastures and innovative grazing systems can contribute to healthier animals, healthier landscapes and better-quality food.
Ultimately, the goal is to develop practical farming approaches that support greater productivity, improved environmental outcomes and long-term profitability for New Zealand deer farmers.
A Look at the Deer at Lincoln
The latest video and photographs capture the deer's arrival, their new surroundings, and some of the people involved in bringing this research to life, including PhD student Emilia Lopez Seco.
Building a Stronger Future Together
The DHFF brings together scientific research and deer farmers' practical knowledge to explore new opportunities for the future of venison production.
It's an important part of Mountain River's commitment to creating greater value across our Community — from farmers and processors to customers around the world.
Thank you to Professor Pablo Gregorini, Emilia Lopez Seco, the Lincoln University research team, and everyone who helped bring this next stage of the project to life.
We look forward to sharing further progress as the research develops.
