On Farm - EOV Field Day Session
The first Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) Field Day for 2026 was held on 12th February at Lyndon and Millie Matthews’ property in North Canterbury.
The focus was simple - practical, farmer-led learning.
Farmers came together in the paddock to walk through what regenerative agriculture looks like in a working deer system. The session was facilitated by Lyndon Matthews, with input from Emily House alongside the Mountain River team.
Rather than theory, the discussion centred on what is actually being done on-farm - what’s working, what’s being tested, and where improvements can be made.
The group worked through key principles of regenerative practice, including:
Understanding farm context
Minimising soil disturbance
Maintaining ground cover and plant diversity
Supporting living root systems
Integrating livestock effectively
These sessions are designed to build over time. Each field day will take place on a different property, allowing farmers to see a range of systems and approaches, while reinforcing the same core principles.
Importantly, this is farmer-driven. The value comes from open discussion, shared experience, and practical insight that can be applied back on individual farms.
EOV sits behind this work - providing a framework to measure, verify, and strengthen the outcomes being achieved.
As EOV assessments begin to come through, these field days will play a key role in turning insight into action.
Thank you to Lyndon and Millie for hosting the first session, and to everyone who contributed.
Capability builds through steady on-farm progress, one step at a time.
