Mountain River Venison — Fit for a Viking Feast!
One of Aifur's dishes is Tore Hjort's Venison, featuring a flavourful cut from the shoulder of New Zealand red deer.

Served with root vegetable hash browns, creamy mushroom sauce and a touch of lingonberry, it's a wonderful meeting of New Zealand venison and Scandinavian culinary traditions.
And it's proving popular!
Aifur uses close to five tonnes of Mountain River Venison shoulder bolar each year — an impressive amount of New Zealand venison finding its way onto Viking banquet tables in Stockholm.
A Dish with a Story from Viking History
At Aifur, even the menu takes guests on a journey through history.
Tore Hjort's Venison is inspired by a Norwegian chieftain from Hålogaland who fought alongside Jarl Håkon at the Battle of Hjörungavåg in 986.
The restaurant's menu also draws on ancient Scandinavian traditions, where deer were regarded as majestic animals with a special place in Viking mythology and symbolism.
It's a fitting connection for Mountain River Venison, bringing together a remarkable animal, a rich cultural heritage and a memorable dining experience.

From the deer farms of New Zealand to a Viking banquet hall in Sweden, Mountain River Venison is finding its place in some remarkable dining experiences around the world.
