Mitchwood Farm, North Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand
At Mitchwood Farm, Jeff and Tina Begg blend lifestyle and livelihood with care. Their deer roam freely across understocked paddocks, thriving on grass and seasonal crops like fodder beet.
Deeply committed to animal well-being, sustainability, and balance, the Beggs believe healthy animals mean a healthy farm. “It’s a cool place to live,” says Jeff. “Some days, just watching the deer reminds you what really matters.” Mitchwood is more than a farm – it’s a way of life.

Jeff Begg notes that what he’s most proud of is keeping his animals in top condition, no matter the weather or season. 'I take a lot of pride in looking after those animals,' he says. 'When they’re in good condition, they don’t have health problems – and financially, it’s better too.
